Lithium Ion batteries are common place in today's world. Many products we use daily such as cellphones, laptops, tablets, cordless power tools, leaf blowers, stick-vacuums, vape pens, etc. or even the cars we drive. However, these devices can have inherent risk if misused, stored improperly, or we do not follow manufacturer's recommendations on how to use and maintain these products. These batteries store a large amount of energy in a small space. Also, as with many products there are aftermarket batteries that are not designed or recommended by the product manufacturer to be used in their devices. Caution should be taken when purchasing these aftermarket battery replacements. Follow these few helpful safety tips to ensue your personal safety and the safety of others.

Purchase and use devices that are listed by a qualified testing laboratory.
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Only use the battery designed for the device.
Do not charge a device under your pillow, on your bed or on a couch. These devices can produce heat and need air to breathe and keep them cool.
Keep batteries at room temperature.
Do not place batteries in direct sunlight or keep them in hot vehicles.
Store batteries away from anything that can catch fire.
Stop using the batteries if you notice these problems: odor, change in color, too much heat, a change in shape, leaking, or odd noises.
Do not put lithium batteries in the trash. Find a recycling site approved for disposal.
Do not put lithium batteries in piles or in drawers. The batteries can come into contact with certain items and become energized.
