Mayor's Biography

Harold Copenhaver has strong roots in Jonesboro.

Elected as mayor in November 2020, Copenhaver was previously senior business development officer at Centennial Bank, worked as a farm manager and in the insurance industry.

Experience in those positions, plus a term in the Arkansas Legislature, composed the foundation for a Copenhaver administration focused on strong fiscal management, public safety and quality of life.

A graduate of Jonesboro High and alumnus of Arkansas State University, Copenhaver has an extensive background in insurance and agri business.

Copenhaver, 59, and his wife, Kathleen, have dedicated their lives to giving in Jonesboro, volunteering and serving on community boards and committees. They were selected at the 2009 Red Wolf Family of the Year, awarded to the family that best exemplifies support for Arkansas State University.

A member of First Baptist Church, Copenhaver sings as a member of the ASU Alumni Men’s Trio and has served as a member of the Board of the Jonesboro Noon Rotary Club. He volunteered with City Youth Ministries and North East Arkansas Food Pantry.

In the 89th General Assembly, Copenhaver chaired the Revenue and Taxation subcommittee on sales, use, miscellaneous taxes and exemptions. He served on five committees and three subcommittees. He was tabbed a “Distinguished Legislator” by the Arkansas Municipal League for his dedication to municipalities.

He and Kathleen have been married 38 years, and have three children: Lauren Copenhaver Nunnally, Austin and Myles, and three grandchildren.
